CineLibri 2019 Official Poster
On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon. That is why we chose this date to announce part of the starry events in the program of the fifth anniversary edition of the International Book&Movie Festival CineLibri! It will last for 15 days, from 5 to 20 October, and will offer glamorous premieres, meetings with outstanding personalities from the cinema and literature world, gorgeous jubilee parties, film retrospectives and invaluable educational events. CineLibri 2019 will be held in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo and Stara Zagora under the motto “The Fifth Dimension“.
The festival envisages 50 films divided into competition and parallel program, incl. fascinating adaptations of literary works created over the past two years, biographical dramas for world-famous artists, animated movies, new interpretations of classical works, and specially selected documentaries. There will be a series of gala evenings celebrating achievements of different cultures, film rituals and cocktails. In 2019, we mark 50 years since moon landing, 500 years since the death of the Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci, 250 years since the birth of the German naturalist and traveler Alexander von Humboldt, and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Jorge Luis Borges, the great Argentine master of short prose. Each of these names inspires respect, no doubt. And because in Physics and Geometry the fifth dimension is associated with a hexagon, as is the form of the library according to Borges, this autumn CineLibri will not save you the movie temptations. Moreover, we will carry you away directly into space! Not without the help of one of the most demanding filmmakers that cinema knows – the visionary Stanley Kubrick.
An important accent among the parallel events is the short film competition CineLibri Short Movie Official Competition, which has a prize fund and is realized through the Film Freeway platform. We are going to select the most successful films to show them at a special ceremony to be held on October 20 at 19:00 in Lumiere Cinema. More information about the competition can be found here.
For the first time, within the festival, an international workshop on “The Art of the Adapted Screenplay” will take place, featuring real luminaries in script writing and adaptation – Linda Seger and Julian Friedmann. The Bulgarian producer, screenwriter and director Dimitar Kotzev – Shosho will join them. The workshop will be entirely in English and is already attracting participants from all over the world. Detailed information about the terms and conditions, lectures, speakers, schedule and content of the lectures themselves can be found on the CineLibri website: https://www.cinelibri.com/cinelibri-workshop-the-art-of-adapting-a-screenplay/
